Is This Email a Scam?

Paste who it claims to be from and any links it contains. We'll tell you what the sender's domain and links actually look like — in plain English, in about ten seconds. Then read the part below about the scam this can't catch, because that's the one that costs Omaha businesses real money.

Read this before you trust any result

This tool cannot catch the most expensive scam there is. If a criminal breaks into your vendor's real email account and sends you a real invoice from their real address, every check on this page comes back clean — because technically it is clean. The only thing wrong is the bank account number.

So: a green result means "no technical red flags," never "safe to pay."

If an email asks you to send money to a new or changed bank account, do this every single time:

  1. 1Stop. Do not pay anything yet.
  2. 2Find your vendor's phone number from an old invoice, a signed contract, or their website — never the number in the email.
  3. 3Call that number and ask a human to confirm the bank details out loud.
  4. 4If they confirm a change, ask why, and confirm again with a second person at the company.
  5. 5Only then release the payment — and tell your bank it's a first-time account.

Wires are usually gone for good once sent, and many small business insurance policies exclude this kind of fraud unless you added the funds-transfer endorsement. Worth a call to your broker to check which you have.
